Here’s just a little bit about me. I was born and raised in Riverside, CA. I am the youngest of five children and I come from a family of teachers. My father taught elementary school for 30 years. My sister and two of my brothers have taught at the elementary and high school levels. My love for learning and education started when I was very young. After graduating from high school, I attended UC Irvine. I dreamt of becoming the next Indiana Jones. After my first year, I decided to transfer back to Riverside; I missed being home. For me, it was the best decision I could have made. I spent the next two years at UC Riverside and graduated with a degree in Anthropology and Ethnic Studies. It was my next move that brought me to San Diego. After graduating from college, I began a Ph.D. program in Ethnic Studies at UC San Diego. I received my Ph.D. in 2011.
From 2005-2013 I taught courses in writing and Ethnic Studies at both UCSD and the University of San Diego. Having taught at the university level for several years, I have a good sense of what college professors expect from their students. I am committed to helping students prepare for college while also helping them develop a strong sense of who they are and how the exist in the world.
